The Center for Adaptive Technology (CAT) provides technology access solutions for people with visual, physical, and learning disabilities. Our goal is to help SCSU students become independent computer users and to ensure access to the same technology other students use to achieve their educational goals. For thirteen years, SCSU has provided computer access at its nationally recognized Center for Adaptive Technology. Access technology is now available in many other locations on campus, including general Macintosh and Windows computing labs, the library, and classrooms. What follows is a break-down of the lab by hardware, features, and software packages. Link to any section of this page by clicking its corresponding heading below.

Note: As part of the Engleman Hall rennovations, the CAT lab will be moving from it's present location in ENC005 to a new location in EB017A-D. Please check with lab or consult the CAT website shown below for further information on this change in location.

The Center for Adaptive Technologies is a mixed-platform computer lab consisting of the following PC configurations:

  • 5 Apple PowerMac G4's
  • 10 Dell Dimension 4100's
  • All computers are equipped with floppy, ZIP, as well as either CD-Rewriteable or DVD-ROM media drives
  • All computers in the CAT run various a plethora of specialized software to assist you with any form of visual, auditory, or learning impairment
