Technology is playing an ever-increasing role
in jobs in virtually every discipline. As the front line of
service and support for Southern's public technology labs, Lab
Assistants obtain a tremendous amount of experience in both teaching
others about existing technology and learning more about new
technology.
Online workshops in each of the Microsoft
Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) are offered
in addition to training in patron relations, adaptive technologies,
scanning, and the transfer of files among different computing
platforms (ex: Macintosh, Windows, Unix). |

The first step for any student looking for campus employment
should be to check the job listings and get registered
as a student interested in work with the Career Services
in Schwartz Hall room 102. Career Services can be reached
at: 392-6536. Many departments on campus, including
Academic Computing, frequently use the listings of registered
students in Career Services to recruit new student employees
for their areas.
