Dear New Student,

Welcome to Southern Connecticut State University. You have made an excellent choice in deciding to pursue your education here and you will find that our campus provides many wonderful opportunities to learn and grow.

One such opportunity is the use of technology. As you are aware, technological advances are producing rapid changes in the way we experience the world. As educators, we have the potential to utilize these advances and teach in ways our predecessors could only have dreamed about. Extensive use of technology on our campus also gives students like you avenues to many new and exciting experiences that will expand your imagination and nurture your creativity.

Southern currently has more than 30 SMART classrooms, which incorporate computers, VCR and/or DVD players, audio equipment and projectors. We continue to provide innovative and cutting-edge resources, such as our first wireless laptop-based computerized writing classroom in Engleman Hall. Our students also have access to more than 700 computers in general-access and subject-specialized computer labs and a computer loan program is available in our residence halls.

I encourage you to make the most of these opportunities during your years at Southern. The new ideas and technologies that you will explore will help you realize your potential as you advance along the path of lifelong learning.
