Instructions on mapping a network drive to your computer.

Solution:
These instructions are for Windows 2000 and Windows XP, using screen shots from Windows XP.

  1. Open My Computer

  2. Click on Tools and then select Map Network Drive...

  3. The first box you will see is Drive. This is the drive letter you will be mapping this network
drive to. You can access it through My Computer or through the command prompt.

  4. If you know the network drive (share) you wish to connect to, you may type it in manually.

  5. If you are unsure, you can browse to the resource you wish to use.

  6. Select the location you wish to map to from the Browse window and click OK

  7. The share will be listed in the Folder box.

  8. Sometimes you will need to enter in a different username and password. To do so, click
connect using a different user name. This will open a new window where you can enter in the
new information. If you are using VPN from home and wish to map a drive, you will definitely
    need to do this.
    Some examples...
    User name: administrator
    User name: scsu\jonesm

  9. Enter in your username and password and click OK.

  10. Once you have completed these steps, you can then click Finish.

  11. If you have entered the correct information and have access to this share, you will then
be able to access the new mapped drive As long as your system is on or you have not disconnected
    it.

  12. You can disconnect the mapped drive by going back into My Computer, clicking Tools and then
    clicking Disconnect Network Drive...
